Diamonds boss Peaks wants more points on the board
Andy Peaks is keen to see AFC Rushden & Diamonds put some more points on the board when they return home this weekend.
Diamonds will play their first game at Hayden Road for nearly four weeks when they take on St Ives Town in the Evo-Stik League South Premier Division.
Peaks’ team are unbeaten in three matches on home soil in all competitions so far this season but three narrow defeats on the road in the league have left them in the bottom half of the early standings.
The Diamonds manager insists he “hasn’t seen anything to frighten me” in those first six league matches.
But he knows his team must get more points under their belt sooner rather than later.
“We are looking forward to a home game, it feels like ages since we had one,” Peaks said.
“I know quite a bit about St Ives and Ricky (manager Marheineke) and Bully (assistant-manager Craig Adams) will have their team fit and organised.
“They have had some great results so far and it will be a tough game for us.
“We have had six games at this level and we have been in every one of them.
“It’s everything I expected, there are some good teams who are well organised and if you don’t take your chances and you make defensive errors then you will get punished.
“I’ve certainly not seen anything to frighten me in the first six games but it’s important we put more points on the board.
“It’s still very early and a couple of wins would fire us right up the league.
"But, at the same time, a couple of poor results would see us dragged down there and that’s obviously something we want to avoid.
“I never really look at the table until a dozen games have been played and that will be the same again this season.
“We just want to focus on picking up some points and we will try to make sure that starts again this weekend.”
