Paul Cox wants to see the Kettering Town fans rewarded with some more points on the board when they host Blyth Spartans at Latimer Park tomorrow (Saturday).

For the first time in nearly nine months, the Poppies are set to step out in front of a crowd at their home ground as supporters get ready to return to ‘elite’ sporting locations across the country.

And Cox’s team will be back at home with a bit of a spring in their step after an encouraging upturn in fortunes over the past week.

Kettering drew 3-3 at Hereford last weekend and then followed that up with an impressive 2-0 success at high-flying Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday night thanks to second-half goals from Luke Graham and Connor Kennedy.

A three-match unbeaten run has left the Poppies looking in much better shape in the Vanarama National League North table.

But Cox knows his team’s efforts on the road will count for little if they can’t replicate it on their own pitch.

“We have got four great points from two fixtures when you look at the history and resources both Hereford and Kidderminster have got,” the Poppies boss said.

“But it means nothing if we can’t come back and win in front of our own supporters.

“We have talked about our pitch and we have to find a solution to win on it. But I am just glad that fans will be back this weekend.

“Having played for the club, I understand what the supporters give the team when they are there.

“It will be nice to have them back in the ground and it will be even better if we can reward them for the patience they have shown with three points.

“We aren’t getting carried away, there’s a lot more we can do to improve and hopefully we can add to the points tally in front of our own supporters.”

The capacity at Latimer Park has been set at 710 for the time being and full details of the new protocols at the ground are available by visiting www.ketteringtownfc.com/news/the-doors-are-finally-opening
