Rothwell Corinthians and Burton Park Wanderers are both looking forward to the first round proper of the Buildbase FA Vase after getting through their second qualifying round matches last weekend.

Wanderers made it through to the first round of the Vase for the first time in 44 years after they beat ON Chenecks on penalties at Latimer Park.

James Logan’s team seemed to be heading for defeat as they trailed their United Counties League Premier Division opponents 2-0 with less than 10 minutes to go.

But Jordan Middleton pulled one back from the spot before substitute Daley Ellis grabbed a late equaliser.

And it was Wanderers who triumphed 6-5 in the shoot-out when Dan Smith saved Joe Lewington’s effort from 12 yards.

Wanderers will face another UCL club in the first round on October 31 after they were handed a short trip to Division One rivals Sileby Rangers in Monday’s draw.

Corinthians’ impressive season so far continued as they beat St Panteleimon 3-0 at Sergeants Lawn.

Dodzi Agbenu, Craig Maisiri and Calum Plowright were on target for Wayne Abbott’s team who will now travel to Malvern Town in the next stage.

Corinthians followed that up with a 2-2 draw against local rivals Harborough Town in the UCL Premier Division on Tuesday night.

After falling behind, Corinthians hit back to lead 2-1 but were denied all three points by a stoppage-time equaliser.
