Corby boss Wright lays down a challenge to returning McDonald

Tommy Wright has challenged Massiah McDonald to earn himself a deal at Corby Town for next season after the frontman returned to Steel Park on loan from Vanarama National League North rivals Bradford Park Avenue for the remainder of the current campaign.

The 25-year-old had a one-month stint with the Steelmen after joining them in late December, scoring one goal in the 5-3 home loss to Lowestoft Town just before the new year.

He returned to Bradford last month but is now back and will be in line to play against another one of his former clubs when Corby go to Alfreton Town on Saturday.

And boss Wright has backed the striker to make another impact at Steel Park in the Steelmen’s battle for survival.

“I am glad we have got Massiah back but, more importantly, I think he is pleased to be here again,” Wright said.

“He has a lot of ability and he now needs to focus after what has been a very frustrating season for him and try to earn a deal here for next year by scoring the goals to help keep us up.

“He is playing for a manager who really believes in him and I have given him the opportunity.

“I believe we have saved his season because it was only going to peter out for him at Bradford.

“I have no doubts he can make an impact for us again.”

Wright, meanwhile, has confirmed left-back Tommy Cooney has left Corby without playing a game due to “personal circumstances”.
