Consistency is the now the key for Corby boss Robinson

Joint-manager Ashley Robinson will be seeking some “consistency” from his Corby Town players during the BetVictor Southern League Division One Central run-in.

The Steelmen lost their grip on top spot after they shared a 1-1 draw with third-placed Halesowen Town in front of nearly 800 fans at Steel Park.

Berkhamsted moved to the summit on goal difference from Corby after their 6-0 win over Wantage Town while Halesowen remain six points off the top two but have four games in hand.

The big game at Steel Park came to life in the second half with the visitors opening the scoring through Jordan Piggott before Elliot Sandy levelled for the Steelmen soon after.

Both teams had chances to win it but, in the end, both had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Robinson was pleased with his team’s display as they bounced back from last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Barton Rovers.

But he knows they will need more high quality performances in the remainder of the campaign if they are to maintain their title challenge.

“As far as a reaction from last weekend, I thought it was 10-fold,” Robinson said.

“We came out of the blocks well, the tempo was better and, on balance, I thought we had the chances to win the game.

“But, at the same time, don’t get me wrong because they are a good side.

“I was just pleased with how we reacted from last week. Our work-rate, our commitment and our endeavour was so much better.

“We were always in the game. We had spells where we actually dominated and I felt we could have won it.

“The reaction after going 1-0 down was fantastic, we got ourselves in the game and from that point, apart from the counter-attacks they had, I felt we dominated the second half.

“You would like to get the three points, I am glad we haven’t lost and hopefully we can now go on a run between now and the end of the season.

“It’s all about consistency and we have to make sure we are like that every week.”

The Steelmen are straight back into action on Tuesday night when they head to St Neots Town.

And Robinson added: “It’s a massive game but, like I keep saying, every game is going to be massive towards the end of the season.

“If we want to achieve our goals then we can’t just turn up to different places with a different attitude. We have to get in the frame of mind that every game is a cup final.”
