Confident Steelmen ready for a crucial period

But caretaker-manager Steve Kinniburgh is keen to ensure his team don’t start taking anything for granted.

A Jordon Crawford hat-trick and a Connor Kennedy goal helped the Steelmen battle back from a goal down to win 4-1 at struggling Gresley FC last weekend.

That victory moved Corby back into the top five in the Evo-Stik League South and they will now be hoping to follow it up in the first of two successive home matches.

However, Kinniburgh knows his team will have to have the right attitude again when they take on 15th-placed Lincoln who claimed a 2-1 win over high-flying Frickley Athletic last Saturday.

“Like we have been saying, the league is not quite set in stone when it comes to who is going to be where at the end of the season,” he said.

“We have seen that teams in the mid-table or lower are capable of beating those further up the league and it shows you can’t go into any game thinking it will be an easy day.

“That was certainly the case for us last weekend at Gresley, the league is so tight that you have to be on your game every single week.

“We have to look after ourselves and as long as we do that and we produce the sort of performances we know what we are capable of, then we will be okay.

“There is nothing wrong with having confidence and we definitely have that going into this weekend. It’s then a case of making sure our attitude is spot on.”

Tomorrow's (Saturday) home clash is followed by another against Leek Town next weekend as Corby head towards the festive period and the halfway stage of the season.

And Kinniburgh wants to see his players use that home advantage in the next two matches to set them up for a busy month.

“We are in that stage of the season where the pitches are a bit heavier and players pick up those little niggles and it’s at this point where you need that little bit extra,” he added.

“We have a steady run up until Christmas and then, like everyone else, we have a spell of four games in something like nine days.

“The aim is to get through this next month with a good return of points and if we can do that then it will set us up nicely for the new year and the latter part of the season.

“But, for the time being, we have got two home games in a row coming up and the target will be to pick up six points from those to set us up for the rest of a tough month.”
