Diamonds put Barton Rovers to the sword at Hayden Road as Ben Farrell scored twice while Liam Dolman, Nabil Shariff and an own-goal completed a comfortable 5-0 success at Hayden Road.

It was the perfect response from Diamonds after they suffered their second defeat of the Evo-Stik South League East season when they went down 1-0 at Hayes & Yeading at the weekend.

The win moved Peaks’ team back up to fifth in the table and the manager admitted he “couldn’t have written the script any better”.

The Diamonds boss said: “The boys were really deflated after Saturday because we were good at Hayes and deserved something out of the game but you don’t always get what you deserve in football and that was the case.

“But we turned up here and it was important to play with a good tempo and quality. And I thought we were excellent from the first minute to the last.

“The first three goals were really good strikes. In general, we have played really well at home but haven’t taken our chances and when that happens, the other team will always grow in confidence.

“We were clinical on this occasion and the three goals ensured they had to change their gameplan. It’s important you take your chances. We have done that and I am delighted.

“We wanted to make sure we didn’t concede in the second half but I said to the boys that if we did the right things then we would create more chances.

“It was frustrating to hit both posts and the bar but I was pleased to see Nabil get his goal because he deserved that.

“In the end, I couldn’t have written the script any better.”

Diamonds now have a break from action until a week on Saturday when they entertain unbeaten league leaders Moneyfields.
