Brett Solkhon believes this goal in the FA Cup clash at Notts County was one of the more memorable of the 101 he has now scored for Kettering Town

The Poppies legend scored his 100th and 101st goals for the club in last weekend’s 4-1 victory at Romford as they made safe progress in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup with a seventh win in a row at the start of the season.

Solkhon now has 101 goals in his 528 appearances for Kettering and, having reached yet another incredible milestone, it gave him an opportunity to reflect on some of his more memorable strikes down the years.

“It was great to finally get the 100th goal,” said Solkhon who turned 36 this week.

“I’d had a few chances in a couple of other games to get there but you always want to score important goals and it doesn’t get much better than in the FA Cup.

“I have been really lucky to have scored some important goals for the club over the years.

“To score goals and help the club to a couple of titles in the Conference North and the level below where we are now was great.

“But the ones that really stand out are the ones in the FA Cup against Notts County in 2008 and even the one against Oldham Athletic in 2006. They were incredible moments.”

Those moments will certainly stand the test of time but Solkhon is far from done and is confident he can contribute even more as the Poppies look to maintain their fine start to the season.

They return to Evo-Stik League South Premier Division Central action on Saturday with a tough home clash against third-placed Leiston.

And Solkhon added: “I hope there will be more to come.

“The manager (Marcus Law) has been using me a bit further forward at times with Aaron (O’Connor) out injured and I think my presence up there can help the likes of Rhys (Hoenes) and Marcus (Kelly) to play off me. They are a bit quicker than me these days!

“We have scored a few goals when I have been in that role so far this season but I’ll do whatever job is required of me and hopefully I can chip in with a few more.”
