Boss Stone sets sights on strengthening squad as Doughboys are hit by injury and suspension

Jake Stone will be working hard to strengthen his Wellingborough Town squad that has been hit by injury and suspension ahead of Saturday's trip to Bedworth United in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

Last weekend's trip to Coleshill Town proved to be a frustrating one for Stone.

The Doughboys boss saw two of his key players in Lloyd Buckby and Connor Furlong sent off, with the pair now facing bans, and he is also coming to the terms with the fact Danny Draper is facing a long time on the sidelines due to injury.

Draper suffered a suspected broken arm in the first half of the 1-1 draw and could be out for the season, and that came off the back of the news that Charlie Green has also been hit by injury and has been ruled out for a month.

Asked if he will be bringing players in, Stone said: "It is difficult, because a couple of the loans we had have gone back and we could have done with them staying.

"Then it is about trying to get those again, and then maybe speaking to a few people I have spoken to over the past few weeks, or shown a bit of interest in that I maybe felt we didn't need at that time, and now we do.

"We had no Charlie Green on Saturday as he is out for a month, Drapes is out for however long, and then you have Lloyd Buckby and Connor Furlong both on three-game bans.

"So the squad looks very thin and we are going to have to do something about it.

"Whether it's doable in the short-term, I don't know, but it is what it is, and we have been lucky with injuries all season.

"It is the name of the game, you have to roll up your sleeves, take responsibility for what we may have done wrong on Saturday and get on with it."

As well as the red cards and injury issues, Stone was left shattered by his side conceding a penalty six minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game to give away what would have been a crucial 1-0 win.

But he says he and his players have to quickly shrug it off.

The Doughboys got to Bedworth sitting in seventh place, four points adrift of fifth-placed Coleshill, but with a game in hand.

"It is disappointing because of the way things happened, but we are still in a half-decent position," said Stone.

"We have still done really well over the past few months to put ourselves where we are, but I would have liked to have come away with three points I think we should have had to then set us on again."
