Boss Stone lands Ball and Webster as Doughboys' squad restructuring continues

Wellingborough Town have continued their summer recruitment drive with the capture of two more exciting signings.

Forward George Ball has made the move to the Dog & Duck from Step 3 side Banbury United, while midfielder Aidan Webster has made the short hop from county rivals AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Jake Stone has been a busy man as he prepares for an assault on the Pitching-In Northern Premier League play-offs in the 2026/27 campaign, and his squad is now looking very strong.

Ball has spent the past two seasons with the Puritans, playing in the Pitching-In Southern League Premier Central, having joined the Oxfordshire club from Loughborough Dynamo.

"I am delighted to sign for Wellingborough," Ball told @doughboys_wtfc.

"After speaking to Jake and knowing the progression of the club over last couple of years, hearing the ambition he and the club has it was something I wanted to join.

"I enjoyed my time at Banbury, but I am looking forward to something new and hopefully I can add plenty of goals and assists.

"Pre season can’t come soon enough and I can’t wait to get started.”

Webster has spent the previous two years at Diamonds, and he was named player of the year at Hayden Road last season.

But he has opted to make the move a few miles down the road to Borough, and feels he is joining an 'exciting' project.

“I can’t wait to get going here," Webster told @doughboys_wtfc.

"I know a lot of the lads at the club and I knew the gaffer a little.

"Jake explained the way he wanted to team to play next season and I think I can be a big part of that.

"The club's plans are exciting so I really wanted to be a part of it.

"I felt as if it was a time for a new challenge to kick on my football, and I am looking forward to meeting up with the lads and staff, and I am ready to attack the season."

As well as the two new signings, the Doughboys have also announced the retention of four more players in Sam Warburton, George Barnell, Matty Slinn and Ethan Johnston.

Stone is happy to keep hold of all four, and told @doughboys_wtfc: "Warbs and Barnell were two of the lads who played the most minutes last season and were consistent performers.

"Ethan struggled with injuries after coming over from Diamonds, but he had some big moments where he showed what a player he can be.

"He was MOM at the cup final and with a full pre season with us, those types of performances will hopefully become a regular.

"Slinny came in around January and added quality to our midfield. Another one that I am excited to see for a full season.

"Last game of the season against Anstey he was phenomenal and he has the ability to be that level week in week out, top lad and a top player.

"All four were really eager to stay and made my job really easy, they will all be huge for us this season”
