Boss Setchell not ruling out more signings coming through the door at Corby Town

Corby Town Gary Setchell has been delighted with the club's summer recruitment business - but admits he could yet further strengthen his squad 'if the right player comes along'.

The Steelmen were quick off the mark with the reshaping of their squad following their heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Worcester City in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midlands Division in May.

Setchell worked quickly to bring in the the players he wanted, although there was also the disappointment of losing some key players, most significantly top scorer and golden boot winner Fletcher Toll and goalkeeper Russ Durrant.

But as well as retaining the bulk of last season's squad, including key men Tendai Daire, Gary Stohrher, Spencer Edwards and Rory McAuley, the likes of Tyrone Lewthwaite, Connor Tomlinson and Jake Laban have signed on at Steel Park.

Setchell is satisfied with what he currently has at his disposal, but admits he wouldn't rule out bringing in more new blood if the opportunity arises.

"If the right player comes along and I feel he can make a difference, then I will go to the ownership and ask the question," said the Steelmen boss.

"They are desperate to get out of the division, but we know we have to stay within the budget, and we did that last year, when we picked up good crowds as well and that helps.

"If we can get the regular attendance up to 700 or more then that helps with the purse strings.

"We have challenged ourselves, and we have challenged the supporters to get behind us, and obviously the supporters will come and watch a winning team."

There is huge potential at Corby, with the huge crowds that turned out for play-off semi-final and final proving that, and Setchell would love to see those attendances on a more regular basis as they bid to go one better and win promotion this season.

"Crowd wise, Corby really did flex their muscles in the two play-off games," said Setchell.

"I had heard a lot about it, but it was nice to be a part of it for a couple of games, and I just wish we could have got the result. But we have to bite down on the gum shield and go again."

Corby Town continue their pre-season preparations on Saturday when they play their first home game of the summer against fellow Step 4 side Berkhamsted.

They are then at home next Tuesday as well when they host Pitching-In Southern League Premier Central side Spalding United.

The Steelmen suffered late agony at Quorn on Saturday, conceding twice in the final four minutes to suffer a 2-1 defeat.

Lewthwaite had opened the scoring for Setchell's side after 48 minutes.
