Boss Mettam happy as Steelmen sink Corinthians to progress in NFA Senior Cup
Leon Mettam was a happy man after seeing his Corby Town team progress into the next round of the NFA Hillier Senior Cup with an emphatic 4-1 win over Rothwell Corinthians on Tuesday night.
The Steelmen were simply too strong for their Spartan South Midlands League Division One hosts.
Reuben Marshall netted twice in the first half as Corby opened up a 3-0 led by the interval, and although Corinthians pulled one back, the Steelmen later added a fourth to secure a convinving win.
"We got the result so that was pleasing, and we got four goals," boss Mettam told @corbytownfc.
"I thought we kept the ball really well, and in fairness it could have been whatever we wanted it to be.
"In the first half we could have had seven or eight, we have hit the post, we have gone through one on one, but it was really difficult conditions.
"It was a really difficult pitch and I thought the lads controlled the game really well and have done everything I have asked of them.
"The only disappointing thing is conceding the goal, which is a silly goal to concede.
"It's one long ball, we have not dealt with the header, and they have gone through and got their consolation, but all in all that was a decent run-out."
Corby begin their senior competitive season on August 8 when they take on FC Peterborough in the FA Cup.
Mettam's side will continue their pre-season preparations on Saturday when they play their first home friendly of the summer against next door neighbours Corby S&L (ko 3pm).
