Gibson sustained an ankle problem in the win against Harlequins at the end of March and was ruled out of a key run of games.

The influential flanker missed the Aviva Premiership clashes with Wasps and Leicester Tigers, as well as the Champions Cup quarter-final at Saracens.

But he will return to action in Saturday’s game against Bath at Franklin’s Gardens, with Saints desperate to win to retain their place in the Premiership top six.

And Gibson said: “It’s been a frustrating month missing out on probably the three biggest games of the year and ones we’ve not done as well as we wanted to in.

“The boys have worked hard and put in performances but just not quite come good in the end.

“I just can’t wait to play again.”

And he added: “We’ve been missing various boys through injury and it’s been a tough few weeks.

“Wasps, Saracens and Leicester are probably the three best teams in England at the moment, if not in Europe, and we’ve almost got there but just not managed to in the end.

“We’ll just have to put it right in the last two games.”
