And the centre is desperate to take his chance in the absence of his club’s World Cup stars.

Eves has arrived at Saints after injury blighted his previous campaign at Championship club Bristol.

The Northampton coaches have seen his potential and they will be hoping the 26-year-old can realise it.

Samoa star George Pisi and England’s Luther Burrell could both be at the World Cup, which starts on September 18.

And with Saints beginning their pre-season campaign at Saracens on the following weekend, Eves could get a chance to shine, along with the likes of Tom Stephenson and Pat Howard, who is another close-season recruit.

“I was injured for about five months last season so the opportunity to come here was huge for me,” said Eves.

“I’ve come to one of the best clubs in Europe.

“I’m just getting my head down and working hard and then hopefully I can get some opportunities.

“We’ve got alot of guys away for the World Cup with their countries, but it’s a quality squad and there’s strength in depth in every position so you’re going to have to be on your toes if you want opportunities.

“You’ve got to work really hard which is what I’ve come here to do.”

Eves and his wife have moved from Bristol to Brixworth and have settled well in the village.

And that bedding in process was vital as the work on the field and in the gym has been particularly punishing during what is a long pre-season.

“It’s been really enjoyable during my first few weeks here,” Eves said.

“They’re a good bunch of lads and they have helped me settle in really quickly.

“Obviously the training has been hard but that’s been good as well and it’s been a really positive experience so far.”
