Dickson started alongside the Irishman, who signed from Munster during the summer, for the second time in the defeat at Racing 92 last weekend.

Despite the result - Saints lost 33-3 - Hanrahan again showed his ability with some clever breaks and good kicking from hand.

It came a week after he had kept his composure to boot his club to a 13-11 victory at Bath, impressing throughout in that vital Aviva Premiership win.

And Dickson has been impressed with Hanrahan, feeling it is great that Saints now have someone to take the pressure off Stephen Myler.

“JJ’s good, he’s very attacking and he likes the ball in his hands,” said the skipper.

“On Saturday, you saw he made some good breaks and we didn’t want to kick too much against these, we wanted to play a bit more, and JJ shows that.

“He’s got very good skills and then Myler came on in the second half and he showed that he’s also got that intent to play.

“It’s brilliant for this club to have two very good fly-halves that they can rotate.

“We can rest one and it’s brilliant for the squad.”
