Day expects another close encounter as Saints head to Harlequins

Christian Day says Saints must be more clinical than they have been in the past if they are to end their barren run at The Stoop.

Day and Co head to Harlequins on Friday night aiming to win there for the first time since September, 2010.

They have come close on a number of occasions since then, losing 25-23 in agonising fashion in the play-off semi-final in May, 2012 and falling to a 22-19 defeat four months ago.

This time Saints, with new players such as George North and Alex Corbisiero in their line-up, want, and expect, better.

Day, who scored in last season’s game at Quins, said: “Not many teams win at The Stoop. Harlequins have made it something of a fortress.

“We had a win three years ago there and every time since we’ve come close, but not got the result. Maybe we need to take a couple more chances and we’ll pick up the win.

“Any time the top eight teams play against each other, it’s quite often just one score that’s the difference.

“You’re playing away from home and it’s not quite as easy to get that score. We know how difficult it’s going to be, we know how tight their team is and that’s what we’re looking forward to.”
