Rossington on road back, but Peters facing three weeks out with broken thumb

But it looks as if opening batsman Stephen Peters faces a lenghthier spell on the sidelines after cracking a bone in his thumb.

Rossington has been out of action since suffering a quad muscle injury in the recent Championship defeat at Glamorgan, and will be missing again for Sunday’s NatWest T20 Blast trip to Yorkshire as well as next Friday night’s home match against Lancashire.

“Adam is going along reasonably well, and we kind of hope he will be fit in time for the next Championship match,” said Ripley, who was delighted with the performance of Rossington’s replacement behind the stumps, Ben Duckett, in Friday’s night’s abandoned T20 match at Leicestershire Foxes.

“He pulled a quad at Cardiff, but he has had a scan and it is only a grade one tear, so he should progress in time to play against Kent.

“We have no game next week, which does him a favour, and hopefully he will be ready by next Saturday.”

Peters on the other hand is set to be out of action until July after suffering a broken thumb in the draw with Essex at the County Ground last week.

Peters batted in the first innings, and after fielding during Essex’s second innings, failed to appear when Northants batted again, and Ripley said: “Stephen has a crack in his thumb, that has been revealed.

“It’s not over complicated, so there’s no operations needed, but I would imagine he will be out for three weeks with that.”
