That was Stephen Peters’ assessment of Northamptonshire’s efforts as they were put in their place by a rampant Yorkshire on day two of their LV= County Championship clash at Headingley.

The County were rolled out for a paltry 94 in response to the hosts’ substantial 459-9 declared and Peters said he wouldn’t be offering any excuses.

He said: “It’s difficult to know where to start.

“We were totally outplayed in all three departmemts and were completely steamrollered in the afternoon.

“The game got away from us with the ball and it had a bit oif a snowball effect when we batted.

“There was still enough seam movement, which sounds ironic given that they got 450, but we played some very poor shots and a few of the dismissals were soft.

“We were on the wrong end of the game after the morning session, they were always going to come at us hard, and they bowled very well.”

Having been made to follow-on, the County will start day three 365 in arrears and Peters wants his side to show more of what they are capable of.

He added: “We’re going to have to show a bit of charcater over the next couple of days.

“We’ve got to get our chins up, dig deep and get stuck in because today just wasn;t good enough.”
