NCL CRICKET: White has Rushden in a spin as ONs go further clear at the top

The Billing Road side were involved in one of only two matches to beat another Saturday of wet weather, and they made the most of their good fortune by seeing off Rushden & Higham Town by seven wickets.

Former Northants player Rob White was the star man with bat and ball for ONs.

First up he claimed five for 32 with his spin bowling as Rushden were bowled out for 123, with William Bates top scoring with 38.

County youngster Amrit Basra continued his excellent start to the season as he took three for 37 and Paul Harris chipped in with two for 38.

White then hit 37 from 43 balls to set ONs on their way to 124 for three in 28.4 overs, with William Heathfield finishing things off with an unbeaten 32.

With the match between second-placed Finedon Dolben and third-placed Peterborough Town being abandoned without a ball being bowled, the ONs are now 19 points clear at the top, and 22 clear of reigning champions Peterborough who have now had their past three matches all cancelled.

The other match to beat the weather saw fourth-placed Oundle dominate against Overstone Park, but they had to settle for a draw.

Mark Hodgson hammered 77, and with support from Connor Craig (43) and Chrystian Thurton (38) Oundle totalled 233 all out, despite the best efforts of Cameron Blake, who snared four for 18.

Park had 40 overs to try and reach their target, but when they slumped to 58 for five it was all about survival, and they batted out for a share of the spoils at 105 for eight, with Jack Johnson's 25 crucial to that.

Pick of the Oundle bowlers was Tom Norman who took three for 38.

The matches between Brigstock and Desborough and Brixworth and Horton House were both cancelled without a ball being bowled.
