The duo were presented with their caps at lunchtime on the first day of the LV= County Championship clash with Glamorgan at the County Ground and head coach David Ripley believes they were well deserved.

He said: “When you’re thinking about capping people you look at what they’ve done for you in terms of runs and wickets and also where they are in your group going forward.

“Kyle’s had two full seasons with us and been very consistent in terms of his runs and what he brings to the team with his personality.

“Steven’s in his second stint here and he’s put in a lot with his runs and wickets in all formats and he’s been excellent since he returned to the club.”

Ripley also revealed that a decision was made to delay the presentation from a couple of weeks ago when Lee Daggett and David Willey received a similar accolade.

He added: “It’s about trying to find the right time and we could’ve done all four the other week but we don;t want to belittle it at all and doing it this way enables each of them to savour it a bit more.

“It’s a nice thing for a cricketer and will be something for them to remember.”
