Afridi - Let’s have some fun

Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi might only be a Northamptonshire player for a few weeks but he insists he wants it to be a fun time.

The all-rounder has signed for the Steelbacks’ first six matches of the NatWest T20 Blast and will make his debut in tonight’s opening game against the Durham Jets.

A veteran of well over 200 Twenty20 matches, nearly 900 List A games and 27 Tests, he brings a vast amount of knowledge about cricket around the world.

And although his stay at Wantage Road may be done and dusted by the middle of June, he is determined to make it an enjoyable one –
and he promises to give everything he has to the club’s cause.

“In six games, you can’t expect very big things (in terms of performance),” he admitted.

“But in my professional career I’ve always tried my level best.

“Giving 100 per cent is the important thing to me and I will definitely be doing that in my short time here.

“The environment of the dressing-room is very important. It should be very friendly, I believe in that.

“Performing on the day – or not performing – is a different story.

“It might only be six games but I want to have a great time.

“It is always an occasion playing in the Twenty20 here and it will be good fun.

“Effort is very important. Winning and losing is a different story because you can’t (always control that).

“But if you give it all you can in the games they will become positive. I want to have a good time and play cricket that people enjoy.”
