Corby’s Jordan Vucenic dominates in triumphant comeback
Corby's MMA hero Jordan 'The Epidemic' Vucenic has emphatically signalled his return to elite contention, securing a dominant unanimous decision victory over the undefeated Norwegian prospect Torpal Merjoev at Cage Warriors 196 in London.
The former Cage Warriors Featherweight Champion, who proudly hails from Corby, showed exactly why he remains a top draw in European MMA. Stepping up to a 160lbs Catchweight bout, Vucenic delivered a relentless, high-pressure performance against the highly-regarded Merjoev, earning wide scorecards of 30-27, 30-26, and 29-27.
The win snaps a two-fight skid for Vucenic and, critically, places him back in the running for championship gold.
"I wanted to prove a point tonight, and that was to show I'm back and better than ever," Vucenic said following the victory. "The support from back home in Northamptonshire means everything, and I brought this win back for them."
For Vucenic, this victory is more than just a return to the win column—it’s a massive step towards his stated goal: a return to the UFC. Before the fight, Vucenic himself confirmed that his primary mission was to follow in the footsteps of other former Cage Warriors champions who earned their way back to the global stage after dominating the European scene.
By defeating an undefeated prospect in a statement performance, Vucenic’s attempts to secure a second run in the UFC are looking very positive. His sights are now firmly set on climbing the rankings for the Cage Warriors Lightweight title, which would make his case for a contract recall almost undeniable.
The high-stakes event drew the attention of many local Northamptonshire figures, all celebrating the fighter's success. Fellow local stars, including Olympic Gold medallist Charlotte Worthington, Corby's own actor Brendan Coyle, and Corby-born rapper xMDx, would have been tracking the impressive victory, underscoring the united support for local talent.
