The Warriors had boasted a proud home record going into the game against Jim Mallinder’s men, but Brookes and Co ruined it with a superb 26-15 win.

Two tries from Ahsee Tuala and one from George Pisi helped get the job done, with Stephen Myler adding 11 points with the boot.

It was a superb night for Saints, who dominated up front and showed their class in their backs play.

And despite their sluggish start to the season, Brookes insists he and his team-mates were always confident they could come away with the result they did.

“You’ve got to go into games thinking you can win and I don’t think there was any self-doubt,” said the loosehead prop.

“It was a decent performance against Scarlets - not perfect, we had a lot to work on - and we worked hard in the week to bring it into this game.

“It was a good win.

“All week we talked about set piece and working as an eight in the lineout and scrum, and I think it showed here.

“It worked well and the backs finished it off.”

Brookes has excelled at Saints since joining from Newcastle Falcons during the summer.

He was named man of the match in the win at Glasgow, but was quick to pay tribute to those around him.

“It’s been good, working with quality players like Alex Waller and Mikey Haywood,” Brookes said.

“Then, in the row behind you, you’ve got Christian Day and we’ve been working well as a unit.

“It’s been shown in the games.”
