North has signed a three-year-deal at Northampton, after being released a year early from his Scarlets contract.

The capture of the wing is a major coup for Saints, who are showing real ambition ahead of next season.

The club have already confirmed the signings of the likes of Kahn Fotuali’i and Alex Corbisiero.

But it’s North, the youngest ever Rugby World Cup try scorer and the first player to have won 20 caps for Wales while still in his teens, who will draw the most attention.

And Mallinder believes the 20-year-old can help Saints develop into regular contenders at home and abroad.

“George is an outstanding talent and we’re looking forward to him being a part of our squad for at least the next three years,” said the director of rugby.

“Despite still being at the start of his career he has shown repeatedly that he has the ability and temperament to succeed at the highest level of the game, and we believe that he will play a big role as we look to take the next steps in our development.

“We’re delighted that George has decided to come to Franklin’s Gardens.”
