Lightweight, cordless and surprisingly affordable, Philips’ clever dual-tank mop delivers a deeply satisfying clean you can actually see

Who'd have thought that a humble mop could have the wow factor? The most striking USP of the new Philips OneUp 3000 Series electric mop is its dual tanks - one feeds clean water onto the floor, the other collects the grime that the mop sucks up.

You might think your floors were reasonably clean before - but the brown water you tip away after using this super mop tells a different story.

The appeal doesn't end there. The appliance is cordless, lightweight (1.9kg) and has a 360° rotating head to reach tight corners and awkward spaces. And there's no messing about with fiddly pads, you just put the entire fast-drying mop head in the washing machine.

The Philips OneUp is made for all types of hard floors - from laminate and vinyl to tiles, wood, stone and parquet. And the price point is surprising. It's just £100, and if you want even more choice, the 5000 series, £150, offers two humidity settings.

The first time I used the 3000 series reminded me of my first encounter with a laser vacuum: I was horrified that my relatively dust-free floor was anything but when you switched the lights off and the vacuum on!

After putting the OneUp together, which takes moments and is made especially easy if you scan the Getting Started QR code, I decided to put this mighty mop to the ultimate test. I used my old steam mop first, giving every hard floor throughout the house a thorough clean. I then cleaned the floors again with the Philips OneUp. I was genuinely surprised at the amount of dust and dirt it sucked up.

Your electric mop comes with a small bottle of ultra-concentrated cleaning solution that lasts around 40 uses.

The OneUp tanks hold plenty of water - you can fill one side with 281 ml of fresh water while the tank for dirty water holds 178 ml. The clean water is pumped down while the grimy water is simultaneously sucked up.

My assumption was that such a sophisticated home appliance would have a poor battery life, but even this is impressive - you get around 70 minutes after using the USB-C charging cable that's included. It's not noisy, either.

Unsurprisingly, online customers are heaping praise on this Philips device. A customer who bought their OneUp mop from Argos left an online review, saying: “It’s a really clever cleaning system, the first one I’ve ever seen like this. I was shocked at the colour of the mucky water.”
