Wetherspoons’ Christmas menu has been revealed - including a stuffing and brie pizza

Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has revealed its 2020 festive food offerings, with some controversial menu items.

Customers will be able to get their hands on traditional Christmas flavours and accoutrements, but in 2020 they're being delivered through the medium of some decidedly non-traditional foods.

Instead of classic Christmas dinner, the chain is offering festive burgers, paninis and pizzas.

What's on the menu?

Pigs in blankets fans can still get their favourites, but they'll probably come on a pizza instead of accompanying a roast.

Wetherspoons’ two new festive pizza toppings are chicken, stuffing, bacon and brie, and brie and smoky chilli jam.

Burger lovers will be able to take advantage of the offer of a brie and bacon, chicken and stuffing, or a brie and cranberry vegetable burger. Each of the burgers costs £7.65, or £9.15 with an alcoholic drink.

Elsewhere, a creamy mushroom risotto rounds out the menu's main offerings - a low calorie alternative which is also suitable for vegetarians.

There are two paninis on the menu - chicken, stuffing, bacon and cranberry, and brie and cranberry.

Why isn't Wetherspoons doing traditional Christmas lunches?

Fans have expressed their disappointment at the chain's non-inclusion of a traditional roast on this year's festive menu.

One regular told The Sun, “Most of their customers are working class. Not many brickies are going to prefer a posh panini over a roast.”

But while the absence of a turkey and trimmings Christmas dinner might appear jarring, Wetherspoons hasn't actually offered one since 2016. That year, it announced it would no longer be serving the festive lunch as part of its Christmas menu, having ceased Sunday roasts entirely just a few months prior.

A spokesperson at the time told Munchies, "A few months ago, all Wetherspoon pubs stopped serving a Sunday roast and it would be difficult to bring back a roast just for the Christmas offer."

When pressed recently as to whether Christmas dinners could one day return, a spokesperson told The Sun, “Never say never, but not this year.”

When is the menu available?

This year's Wetherspoons festive menu will be served up between Thursday 12 November and Thursday 24 December 2020.
