Temperatures across the UK are set to plummet over the next few days, with snow, sleet and rain to hit certain areas.

The evening of Easter Sunday (4 April) will see temperatures take a dip, with some areas reaching temperatures as low as -3C.

Overnight on Sunday into Monday (5 April), there will be a “band of rain, with snow on the back edge coming quickly south into central parts by dawn,” according to the Met Office.

It will be much colder with sleet and snow showers forecast for the north of the UK.

There will also be “gales in the northeast,” the Met Office adds.

Easter Monday (5 April) will then see a band of rain and snow clearing the south. It will then be very cold with sunshine, but snow showers will affect the North and areas exposed to the northerly wind.

The Met Office UK outlook for Tuesday (6 April) to Thursday (9 April) says it will be “very cold and windy with further wintry showers on Tuesday. Drier, but still cold, on Wednesday. Less cold through Thursday, but with rain and strong winds in the north.”

What is the long-term forecast?

Looking further ahead, the Met Office UK outlook for Friday 9 April to Sunday 18 April forecasts that “a period of less cold and more settled conditions will once again give way to another very cold and wintry picture, especially for northern areas.”

However, “uncertainty remains in how far south this very cold air will extend.”

Strong winds are also expected for northern parts at first, though these will ease later on in the period.

After this, conditions are then likely to turn drier and more settled for most.

Temperatures look to be largely below average for this time of year, “with notable overnight frosts developing throughout.”

However, there is the possibility that temperatures will lift nearer to or slightly above average later in the period.
