
The woman was walking along Duke Street on her way back from the shops in Rockingham Road at about 5.30pm on Saturday (December 3) when she was assaulted and robbed.
A police spokesman said: “A short distance from her destination, she was approached from behind and struck on the back of the head, causing her to fall.
“She then noticed her handbag had been stolen.
“The victim, who was in her 50s, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.”
