He said: “We were nearly home and we passed the police station in Midland Road.

“A car was parked, covering the entire footpath.

“I swore at the driver, then a member of staff appeared from the police station and told me off. Fair enough.

“Then outside my home a police car arrived and said I’d sworn at the member of staff and told me off for swearing. That was a lie.

“Perhaps I shouldn’t have called the driver what I did.

“But for the two officers to follow me home and threaten me and lie was bad.

“It wasn’t exactly diffusing the situation.

“Usually the local police are excellent and I’d usually give them a chance to respond but these two officers were trying to provoke me in front of my girls.

“My girls are very confused about the police now.”

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “I can confirm that we have received a complaint from a member of the public in Wellingborough and inquiries into what happened are on-going.”
