The club’s stairlift was fitted about 30 years ago and is no longer maintainable.

But a grant from the SITA Trust means they can now replace the ageing stairlift.

The chairman of the club’s management committee said the new stairlift would be of great benefit to all those disabled or ambulant disabled members and guests who find it difficult to use the steps to the lounge and bar area.

It should also be more reliable as less maintenance work will be required as the existing stairlift was prone to breaking down because of its age.

Marianne Ivin of the SITA Trust said: “It is really encouraging to see a bowls club that is open all year round and offers such a wide range of uses for its facilities.

“The stairlift will mean that there is no restriction for anyone who wants to use the club.”

The SITA Trust provides funding awards through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund – an important source of funding which came into effect in April 2015.

The scheme is linked to the Scottish Landfill Tax and encourages landfill site operators to provide contributions to approved bodies, who can then pass the funds onto community and environmental projects.
