Wellingborough am dram group appealing for your support for next show

Rehearsals are in full swing for Wellingborough Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society’s (WAODS) upcoming production of Anything Goes.

The group, which has been running for more than 100 years, will be taking to the stage at Wellingborough’s Castle theatre from Tuesday, March 7, until Saturday, March 11.

A cast of more than 30 people will be hoping to delight audiences with their performance of the comedy, with musical numbers including You’re The Top, I Get A Kick Out Of You and Let’s Behave.

The story tells the tale of those setting sail on the S. S. American from New York to England in the 1920s, with passengers including an English heiress Hope Harcourt, her fiance Sir Evelyn Oakley, and Hope’s mother.

The show is less than a month away, but there’s still plenty of time to buy tickets and the group would really appreciate the support of people in and around the town.

Roger Osborne from the group spoke to the Northants Telegraph last year when the future of The Castle theatre was uncertain.

After The Castle (Wellingborough) Limited, which ran the theatre, was put into administration in April, Mr Osborne said it had left various societies ‘out of pocket,’ including WAODS.

Mr Osborne said at the time that the generosity of ‘one or two donations’ had helped the group clear its bills from putting on Singin’ In The Rain at The Castle in March, but it would take a lot of fundraising to get back the money which he said the group was owed.

He described it as a ‘difficult year’ for the group, but people buying tickets for their latest production would be a huge help.
