Northamptonshire's weather watchers play it cool over Thursday's 'heavy snow' warnings

Northamptonshire could see some sleet or snow on Thursday — but weather watchers are warning ice on roads and footpaths could be a much bigger problem.

No Met Office warnings are in force for the county despite some dire forecasts of winter weather hitting parts of the county.

And local forecasters @NNweather say: "Heavy rain is expected tomorrow morning with a risk of it turning to sleet or snow for a time in the afternoon — particularly in the east of the county — as temperatures fall close to freezing.

"Ice may well be a widespread hazard tomorrow night."

Met Office forecasts predict light snow over Rushden and Oundle from around 2pm, and over Wellingborough from 4pm.

Northampton could also see some flurries for a couple of hours from 5pm onwards.

Friday should be cold and misty but with temperatures tumbling to MINUS 4°C overnight and @NNweather also warned: "Latest Met Office outlook suggests cold weather ahead.

"Low pressure and northerly/northeasterly winds will bring in cold air from Scandinavia with an associated snow risk for the UK."
