WATCH: See how Wellingborough's new bridge was lifted into place

Six huge bridge beams were lifted into place above the railway line at Stanton Cross in Wellingborough on Saturday and Sunday.

And this time-lapse video, taken over a 48-hour period, shows just how it was done.

It demonstrates the scale of the bridge, which is just a few metres from Wellingborough railway station, to the east of the town.

The six bridge beams are each 41m long and weigh more than 30 tonnes apiece.

In total, the bridge beams weigh more than 14 double decker buses.

The bridge beams were lifted into position using a rare 1,100-tonne crane.

There are only three of these cranes in the whole of the UK.

Paul Soutar, Bovis Homes’ divisional operations director responsible for Stanton Cross, said: “We are thrilled that the bridge installation was a great success and would like to thank the residents of Wellingborough for their patience.

“The bridge forms an important part in the development of Stanton Cross and we are now looking forward to the next exciting stage of the project.”

Wellingborough Council leader Martin Griffiths said: “Stanton Cross is so important to Wellingborough and the construction of the bridge signals a renaissance for our borough.

“We have other projects in the pipeline, some big, some small, that between them will give a huge boost to our local economy and increase the opportunities for our residents.”

The rail bridge, located to the north of Wellingborough train station, and the River Bridge, which will cross the River Ise, are integral parts of the first major road route in Stanton Cross, Route 4.

Route 4 will run from Midland Road, across the railway and through a new town and country park into the new development.
