Vote Leave campaigners bring their '˜battle bus' to Kettering

UKIP MP Douglas Carswell joined local supporters and shoppers as the Vote Leave battle bus stopped off in Kettering town centre yesterday (Wednesday).

The campaigners were trying to rally grass roots support as part of the Vote Leave campaign ahead of the referendum on June 23.

Bringing the battle bus to Kettering’s Clock Tower in Gold Street, Mr Carswell walked along High Street with local campaigners, distributing leaflets and meeting members of the public.

Canvassing support for the Vote Leave campaign, he encouraged people to take back control of their own destiny when they vote in the EU referendum in five weeks’ time.

He said: “It is important we are in Kettering to support the grass roots campaign here.

“Being in the EU costs local services as we have to send £350 million a week to Brussels.

“Around one in four parents find that they don’t get their first choice of school locally.

“There are waiting lists for school places and a shortage of GPs in the NHS.

“We could solve those issues if we weren’t sending that amount to Brussels and take back control in Kettering if we leave the EU.”

Local campaigner Ian Bloomfield, who runs a regular Vote Leave stall in the High Street, said: “This is a really important issue and we need to make sure that people understand that a vote to leave is a chance for us to take back control.”

The event was one of several visits from the Vote Leave campaign touring the country this week.
