Raunds Town Council has signed up to take part in the Community Speed Watch (CSW) scheme after speeding was highlighted as a problem for the area.

As part of the Vision for Raunds Community Plan, people said that speeding vehicles are an issue in Raunds and they want action taken to stop it happening on their doorstep.

“By working together, Community Speed Watch enables local people to become actively involved in helping to slow down traffic in 20mph or 30mph zones within their community.”

Volunteers will receive appropriate training to use speed detection devices and will be supported by Safer Community Team (SCT) staff.

The CSW scheme will take place in the town during August and September.

Volunteers will need to be able to attend a half-day training session in Northampton prior to taking part in the scheme, with a variety of dates available during the spring and early summer.

The aim of CSW is to change local and driver attitudes towards speeding, to reduce excessive speed in Northamptonshire to within the 20mph or 30mph limits, and to create a safer environment for the local community.

It also aims to encourage communities to champion safer roads in Northamptonshire and to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding.

Anyone interested in volunteering in the scheme is asked to send an email to [email protected] or call 01933 622087.
