A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Both drivers have been taken to Kettering General Hospital. At the moment, we are unsure on the levels of injuries and, though they haven’t been taken to Coventry, I wouldn’t want to speculate at the moment."

Highways England confirmed this afternoon that the road remains closed so that debris on the road can be removed. They added that they are also dealing with another collision that took place near junction 3 (A6) Eastbound.

Both collisions are in the process of being cleared but there is a lot of congestion in the area.

More to follow.
