UPDATE: Lanes have now reopened after an earlier collision. Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service released one person from a van.

Two lanes on the M1 are closed this evening (May 14) due to a 'serious collision'.

There has been an incident on the M1 southbound between Junction 15A, for Northampton services and the A43, and Junction 15 for the A45 to Northampton and Wellingborough.

Two lanes are blocked as Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service make their way to the scene.

Highways England is advising drivers to avoid the area, if travelling.

A tweet from Highways England says: "The #M1 southbound #J15A / Northampton Services (#A43 #Northampton) to #J15 (#A45 #Northampton #Wellingborough) 2 lanes are blocked due to a serious collision. @northantsfire @EMASNHSTrust & Traffic Officers are on their way to the area. If planning travel, avoid the area."
