Delays for Kettering passengers after person hit by train near Market Harborough

Passengers faced delays this morning (Wednesday) after a person was hit by a train between Leicester and Market Harborough.

The incident led to disruption for trains on the London / Sheffield / Nottingham routes.

Intercity Trains were being diverted between Leicester and Kettering, and not stopping at Market Harborough.

While the line has re-opened and trains are now able to run, East Midlands Railway says there are still delays on some services.

And East Midlands Railway has since confirmed that the person hit by a freight train on the Leicester to Market Harborough line died at the scene.

A spokesman for EMR said: “We were called at 4.17am to a report of person being hit by a freight train just south of Leicester railway station.

“The person was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.”
