A stretch of a major route through Kettering will face closures for more than a week so vital works can take place.

Part of Rockingham Road will be shut to motorists from April 26, with the crumbling road being resurfaced during daytime hours.

North Northamptonshire Council say the work - between Northfield Avenue and Havelock Street - will be complete by May 7.

A council spokesman said: “Work is currently taking place to replace gullies (drain covers) in Rockingham Road, Kettering, and this is being done using a ‘rolling’ traffic light system as work progresses along the road.

“Then, depending on weather conditions, work to resurface the stretch of Rockingham Road between Northfield Avenue and Havelock Street will take place between April 26 and May 7.

“This will involve closing this stretch of road off peak - between 9.15am and 3.30pm - to minimise disruption.

“The diversion will be via Northfield Avenue and Lower Street.”
