Target set to collect 10,000 tins for Wellingborough food bank

It comes as Wellingborough Homes celebrates its tenth birthday in December.

As tin is the symbol of the 10-year anniversary, they have set themselves a ‘tin target’ to raise 10,000 tins of food for The Daylight Centre in Wellingborough.

The centre, which has been running for nearly 23 years, helps homeless people with hot food, washing facilities and the food bank.

It also helps people with complex mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse and learning difficulties.

So far this year, The Daylight Centre has had just under 600 visits on average per month and has supplied approximately 750 food parcels.

Wellingborough Homes will be placing a donation trolley at their Thompson Court customer centre (next to Morrisons in Wellingborough) for customers and people in the town to donate towards a good cause, as well as

encouraging staff to donate at their main office.

They are aiming to reach their target between June 1 and November 30 and will have monthly updates on the progress.

Throughout the tin appeal, the housing association is expecting to have more donation trollies in various places in Wellingborough.

Paul Adams, manager of The Daylight Centre, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Wellingborough Homes to be the recipient of this initiative celebrating their tenth anniversary.

“This year, we have seen a significant increase in demand upon our services and this enterprise will help us to continue to provide essential support to people in need in our local community.”

Last September, Wellingborough Homes worked with the Daylight Centre, among other Wellingborough organisations, where their staff took part in 11 community projects including DIY, gardening and social events.

Jo Savage, chief executive of Wellingborough Homes, said: “The services the Daylight Centre provides are in high demand and we are very proud to be leading this campaign as part of our tenth anniversary celebrations.

“We worked very closely with the charity last September in the run-up to our Giving Something Back volunteering day and we are delighted to be working with them again.

“Wellingborough Homes has a commitment to work with and support the local community and I am confident that, by working together as one team, we can reach our 10,000 tin target to support the Wellingborough community.”
