Supermarket chain spreads some festive cheer at Wellingborough community centre
Community groups in Wellingborough enjoyed a Christmas lunch thanks to the town's Tesco store.
The support provided by staff from the Victoria Park store marked the start of Tesco’s ongoing support for the Victoria Centre in Palk Road, Wellingborough.
The shop provided £500 towards the community Christmas lunch as well as providing raffle prizes including wine, Tesco gift cards, cookery books and chocolates to help with the centre’s fundraising.
The Victoria Centre provides a meeting place for the multi-cultural and multi-faith community of Wellingborough.
Activities run by the centre include friendship clubs for the over 50s, luncheon clubs, pre-school and afterschool clubs, play schemes and English language classes.
Tracey Boswell, community champion at Tesco Wellingborough, said: “The Victoria Centre works in partnership with other community organisations to support local people as well as focusing on the welfare of residents and community issues.
“We are delighted to be offering ongoing support to the centre and the Christmas lunch was a great way to start things off.”
Victoria Centre manager Katrina Cook said: “As a charity, we are reliant on the support of the local community and we are extremely grateful to Tesco for its help with the Christmas lunch and for its ongoing support.”
