Songwriter Selina wows judges in international competition

Selina Swaby, from Moulton, entered her unreleased songs Do I Have Any More Love and You’re Mighty into the competition, run by US-based SongDoor.

Selina said: “I have no idea how many entries there were this year, but I know that SongDoor received submissions from 24 countries in 2014. This is truly a platform for artists across the globe to showcase their talent and is a seriously tough competition.

“I am delighted with this year’s results; two of my songs receiving such attention on the world stage.”

SongDoor has some big names on the judging panel.

They included Bill Shore, who has had more than 200 songs recorded by many A-list artists; Jason Blue, the mega hit songwriter with in excess off 50 million album sales, and Steve Avedis, the premier recording engineer and producer whose credits include Kenny Rogers and Tony Bennett.

Nigel, Selina’s husband, who is part of her production team, said: “The last couple of years have been seriously tough, but our hard work is beginning to pay off.”

The couple are using money they make from the songs to help a campaign they have set up called You Can Make A Difference Too, which aims to work with partner organisations, such as charities, to help homeless and poorer people.

Nigel said: “It’s got nothing to do with making Selina or I famous, it’s about using profits from music sales to fund projects to help people living in poverty and the homeless.

“Although this project is a labour of love it can get seriously lonely out there, but what spurs us on is the support we receive from so many organisations across the globe that stand shoulder to shoulder with us.”

The Rev Adam Eakins, of Broadmead Baptist Church in Northampton, said: “Since attending the church last year I have been impressed with Nigel and Selina’s passion and the commitment they have given to this project and the creative skills that have gone into the music.

“They are clearly committed to serving the homeless and the poor and we, as a church, are standing by them.”
