Son praises ‘fantastic’ Northants Search and Rescue team for finding his missing father

Jon Baines has written a blog post in praise of the team of volunteers and police officers who found his 81-year-old father two days after he went missing on August 4.

Mr Baines said his father was found last Thursday in a field of oil seed rape after walking six kilometres from his care home.

The Northants Search and Rescue team found Mr Baines’ father down a remote farm track and he is now recovering in hospital after suffering dehydration and sun burn.

Mr Baines has thanked all the people who tweeted the details of is missing father but said the people who “deserved the most thanks” were those who helped to find his father.

He said: “The fantastic local police of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, and the remarkable volunteers of the various Lowland Rescue organisations: I know there were representatives of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire, and if I’ve forgotten anyone, then I apologise and will happily add them.

“There was no let-up in the searches, except when deep nighttime militated against it, and the planning and coordination were tremendous. They were positive, compassionate, patient when we were impatient, and totally dedicated to finding my father.

“He owes his life to them, and we can’t ever thank them enough.”
