Show your support by joining the hundreds already signed up for Kettering's Crazy Hats walk

The annual five-mile fundraiser returns to Wicksteed Park in Kettering on Sunday, April 2.

Hundreds of people have already signed up for the event, which starts at 10.30am and will help raise thousands of pounds to go towards improving breast cancer care at Kettering and Northampton general hospitals.

But there is still time to get your entries in and show your support for the annual fundraiser.

Crazy Hats founder Glennis Hooper said: “Wicksteed will be open to the public this year so we are hoping it will attract more walkers and supporters.

“We’re just as excited and look forward to people sending their entries in.

“Behind the scenes, the Crazy Hats extended team are really busy working through the many jobs that are needed to ensure a good day.”

Since Glennis launched the charity in 2001, it has raised more than £2.3 million.

Crazy Hats supports all aspects of breast cancer care in the county with a small percentage of funds being given to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The majority of money raised has been spent on projects in the breast care and oncology departments at Kettering and Northampton hospitals to buy many items of equipment and resources to maintain and enhance facilities.

It is hoped that each of these items will ensure that every patient’s breast cancer journey is as comfortable as it can be and that standards of care in the county remain high.

As well as funding projects for the hospitals, the charity also has its own weekly support and therapy service at its base in Wellingborough.

This year’s event will be the 15th sponsored walk and late entries will be accepted on the day, although it helps the charity if people register beforehand so they know the numbers.

Anyone wishing to sign up for this year’s walk can register online, download a form online or pop into the office in Sanders Road on the Finedon Road industrial estate to register.

And Glennis, who was treated for breast cancer herself, added: “Please make a commitment for one morning this year to make a difference to people’s lives in Northamptonshire whose lives are, and have been, affected by breast cancer.”

Dogs are welcome to take part in the walk with their owners, but they must be on leads.
