Emergency services were called after a member of the public raised concerns about wet clothing and unattended fishing gear found by the river.

Police and fire were deployed following the discovery by the river in Great Doddington earlier today (Wednesday).

Crews from Earls Barton, Rushden, the water rescue unit from Wellingborough and the technical rescue unit from Mereway attended.

A spokesman for Northants Police said: "We got a call this morning from a concerned member of the public who had seen wet clothing and unattended fishing gear at the river in Great Doddington.

"Officers from both police and fire were deployed to check out the circumstances.

"Thankfully the fisherman was located safe and well.

"No-one had to be rescued."
