Rushden author's short story wins national writing competition

A Rushden author has scooped a prize after penning a short story which wowed the judges at the Hastings LitFest Short Story competition.

Stephanie Percival was presented with the award for her story ‘Game’.

She said: “I have won or been short-listed in other writing awards but this is the first time I’ve actually got a trophy and a prize.”

The presentation ceremony was held at the Royal Victoria Hotel, Hastings, last month.

Stephanie received her award from Amanda Burton, best known for her role in Silent Witness.

The short story had to be based on the theme of ‘conquest’ and was judged by Amanda Saint, novelist and founder of Retreat West.

Amanda said: “I knew as soon as I read it that it was going to be hard to beat.

“How each person’s story segues into another’s is really well done.”

On Sunday, October 14, Stephanie is appearing at The Booksmith Book Storm event, where about 20 authors will be leading talks about their writing and books.

The event is being held at The Booksmith, the Old Depot, Weedon Bec from 10.30am-4pm.

Stephanie will be selling and signing her latest novel, The Kim’s Game.
