Central and East Northamptonshire Citizens Advice, said that even though 24 volunteers joined its team of volunteers last year, 11 existing volunteers had left to find paid employment.

Now the Mercers Row-based advice charity is urgently seeking at least 16 new volunteers to join its ranks as part of its in-house volunteer training programme.

Chief executive, Martin Lord said: “Citizens Advice services have been provided in Northampton for over 75 years – and over that time, touched the lives of most people in the town, and if not them their families, friends and loved ones”

“It’s one of the nicer problems we have to deal with that many of our volunteers will move into paid work, in fact volunteering often makes an application for paid work more compelling.

“But what that does mean is that we are constantly needing to replenish our volunteer numbers - that’s why we’re now calling out for more local people to come forward to help us.”

The charity’s workforce is 85 per cent voluntary fulfilling range of roles with differing levels of commitment and training required.

Mr Lord said:“We are especially keen to encourage more retired people or people not actively seeking work to join our team, we have a really good training programme and no prior experience or qualifications are needed.

“There really is a role for everyone.”

Volunteer Gillian Horrell, from Grange Park, said: “I joined Citizens Advice after retiring and absolutely recommend it.

“It’s offered me an opportunity to learn new skills and make new friends whilst helping people in our community deal with life’s problems.”
