Rescuers called in after feathered friend found swanning around Rushden Lakes car park

It might look like a scene from Hot Fuzz, but help was needed to get the swan back to safety

An animal charity was called in to help after a swan was found wandering around the Rushden Lakes car park.

While local wildlife was always meant to be a big part of the leisure and retail development, this swan seemed to have lost his way a little.

But volunteers from Animals In Need in Little Irchester were able to help and get him back to safety and away from the car park.

Annie Marriott from Animals In Need told the Northants Telegraph: "Lizzie and Emma went out to the Rushden Lakes swan, we get called quite often to wildlife there.

"He is ok, no injuries.

"He has been chased off by his parents as they will be looking to prepare for this year's brood.

"Swans really are wonderful parents, but when the time is up they get run off."

And she added: "Swans come down all over the place, we are picking them up daily at the moment.

"In previous years we have picked them up from the M1!"

Animals In Need has been rescuing and re-homing animals across the county for 30 years.
