The national awards celebrate outstanding achievement in planning work by local authorities, consultants, developers, lawyers, voluntary and neighbourhood groups and other key players in the planning system.

Despite not scooping the top award, Wellingborough’s planning team was highly commended by the panel of judges, being recognised as ‘ambassadors for high quality growth’, having shown the importance of being efficient and effective – delivering timely, robust outcomes improving the local community and secure investment for the future.

Council leader Martin Griffiths said: “The council’s planning team was rightly highly commended by the judging panel.

"The team has achieved significant improvements over recent years and delivers high national performance.

“The result is also especially remarkable given the uphill task that was required from the position four years ago and the fact the small team delivers quality services, at the lowest cost per head of the local population, when compared to all councils across the East Midlands.

“It’s been quite clear that we have staff who are exceptional in what they do, and who are passionate about getting the best possible outcome for the borough – this has been most notable

during the Covid-19 position where the team have prioritised work to support the local economic recovery and maintained high performance.

"Congratulations to everyone.”
