Affordable homes could be built on the site of Wellingborough's former swimming pool.

Grand Union Housing Group wants to build 24 affordable homes where the town's swimming pool used to be in Croyland Road.

The site, which has been vacant since the old swimming baths were demolished, already has outline planning permission for 19 dwellings.

If the new plans are approved, the existing access to the site which has been blocked off would be used for the proposed development.

The plans are for 24 terraced and semi-detached two-storey dwelling houses.

There would be seven affordable homes for rent and 17 shared ownership properties, with a mix of two and three-bed properties.

There would be two car parking spaces per dwelling with additional visitor parking.

Documents submitted as part of the planning application state: "The application site is within an established residential area and the principle of residential development of this site is already established as there is extant planning permission for residential development of this site.

"It is also a site that is included within the council’s five year should land supply as published in 2019.

"Outline permission was for 19 dwellings and the current proposal would increase that number by five dwellings.

"The proposal is for 100 per cent affordable housing, which will meet an identified need, in a sustainable urban location on previously developed land."

The applicant says there would be social benefits from the delivery of 24 affordable homes to meet an identified need in the borough.

And the proposal would also result in environmental benefits from the efficient use of previously developed land.

The planning documents also state: "The proposal would result in the economic benefits arising from jobs that would be created in the construction and fitting out of the proposed affordable homes.

"There would also be economic benefits from the spending of future occupiers in local shops and on local services and facilities."

The application will be considered by Wellingborough Council.
